Our Mission

The mission of the Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation is to improve the quality of life for residents of northeast urban Wyandotte County, Kansas through community revitalization and economic development.

Our Vision

Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corp. envisions revitalized neighborhoods with quality, affordable housing, access to basic human services and sustained economic development.

Executive Director

Reverend Ervin Sims, Jr. is the executive director of Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. Executive Director - Reverend Ervin Sims Jr.His professional achievements include recently retiring after 29 years of service as the Assistant Manager of the Board of Public Utilities - Water Operations; Former National Director of American Water Works Association (AWWA); Trustee for the Kansas section of the AWWA (Vice Chair); Member, Engineering Society; Member, National Society of Professional Engineers; and Founder/President of Economic Community Development Corporation. He is also the founder and immediate past president of MCRC. He serves on the board of directors for Wyandotte County Chamber of Commerce and is a past board member of the United Way of Wyandotte County. Rev. Sims participates in numerous other civic and professional organizations.

Reverend Sims is pastor of Mt. Carmel Church of God in Christ. Mt. Carmel Church is one of the most vibrant and progressive churches in Kansas City metropolitan area.

His awards and community recognition include "Black Achievers in Business" Award, 1983, by SCLC; "20 Good Men" Award, 1990; "100 Most Influential" Nominee, 1993; the Distinguished Public Service Award, 1997, by American Water Works Association; and George Warren Fuller Award, 1998. He also received the Wyandotte County Citizenship Award presented by the United Government of Kansas City/Wyandotte County in 1998.

Reverend Sims is a visionary. He believes that nothing is impossible. He leads Mt. Carmel Redevelopment Corporation in executing its multi-million Dollar expansion program designed to revitalize its existent community, expand the diverse components of the organization and to facilitate the creation of safe, healthy neighborhoods.
